9-Day Pacific Coast Nautical Itinerary

Getting here and setting sail is effortless. With nearby and accessible marinas, clear routes, and countless experiences to choose from, navigating Panamá is as easy as arriving at the airport, taking a short drive, and embarking on your adventure.

This 9-day journey invites you to explore a coast rich with islands and archipelagos — a nautical route that takes you from world-class fishing grounds to marine sanctuaries, complemented by vibrant on-land experiences filled with local culture and gastronomy.

As a recognized Blue Leader, Panamá protects over 50% of its marine territory, standing at the forefront of a global commitment to safeguard the world’s oceans for generations to come.

Along the Pacific coast, an unexpected sight awaits: islands that look just as dreamy as the Caribbean, with turquoise waters, white sands, and thriving marine life — also, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, one of the largest and most biodiverse marine corridors in the world.

So… ready to jump on board?

  • Panoramic view of the Port of Panama City and the Amador Causeway, from where the nautical expedition departs.

Arrive in Panama City, where the Pacific adventure begins. Stroll through Casco Antiguo, the historic district of the city, and experience its vibrant blend of history, culture, and cuisine, as Panama City proudly holds the title of a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

Admire the harmony between colonial charm and modern skyline before setting sail from Amador Causeway.

  • Person snorkeling in turquoise coastal waters of the Las Perlas Archipelago, Panamá.

Head towards the amazing Las Perlas, an archipelago of over 30 islands and 100 islets, just 45 nautical miles from Panama City. Once famed for its pearl divers, today it’s a sanctuary that will surprise you by its turquoise waters — similar to a swimming pool — coral reefs, and beaches.

Once in Las Perlas, you will anchor on Isla Chapera and spend the morning snorkeling and kayaking before heading to Pachequita for paddleboarding. If your adventure is between July and October, stay alert for humpback whales, as thousands migrate here to breed — one of nature’s most unforgettable sights.

  • Group of visitors aboard a boat near the houses of the island community in Las Perlas, exploring the area.

Waking up in the south of Las Perlas Archipelago, begin your day at Punta Coco - Isla del Rey — the biggest island around — here you will have two choices for the day. One, with more islands to discover filled with biodiversity and the other, an experience with sustainable experiences with the locals.

You can continue your day by visiting three wild islands: Dive into the San Telmo submarine wreck, try sportfishing near La Galera, and plunge into the reefs of Isla Camote.

Or, you can choose to sail to Otoque and Boná — a little bit near the coast — where you can enjoy sustainable experiences developed by the communities, such as bird watching, hiking, and enjoying local flavors, keeping things real and raw.

Any option is the perfect choice for the day, before setting an overnight course to Coiba.

  • Diver exploring marine life in coral reefs of Coiba National Park, on Panamá’s Pacific coast.

Start your day surrounded by the wild beauty of Coiba National Park, an archipelago of 38 islands — with Coiba as the largest — and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once isolated, it remained untouched for decades, allowing life to thrive: over 800 fish species, lush tropical rainforests, and the largest coral reef on the Pacific coast of the Americas, making it today a marine sanctuary, part of the same ecological corridor as the Galápagos.

Snorkel its vibrant underwater scenes, spot macaws and monkeys along the Monkey’s Path, then anchor at Isla Canales, where — if you are lucky — you may spot whale sharks gliding through plankton-rich waters from January to March.

  • On this next day, you have two paths to choose depending on your vibe:

Surfer gliding over a wave at Playa Santa Catalina, a popular destination within the nautical itinerary.

Plan A: Sail toward Santa Catalina Beach (about 1.5 hours by boat from Coiba), a coastal surf-town with exotic local flavor, laid-back beaches, and a vibrant nightlife waiting for you.

Sea turtle hatchlings on Mata Oscura Beach, reflecting biological conservation on the Pacific Coast of Veraguas Province.

Plan B: Head to Mata Oscura Beach, on the Pacific coast of Veraguas Province — a hidden gem where sea turtles return each year to nest. This coastal community leads turtle conservation efforts recognized both in Panamá and abroad. Spend the day kayaking through lively mangroves, hiking lush jungle trails, and if you decide to stay overnight, eco-lodges nearby offer the perfect place to unwind.

Whichever you pick, the day’s yours to roam at your pace.

  • Aerial view of the Gulf of Chiriqui with its tropical islands full of life, coral reefs, and mangroves.

Let's go through the Gulf of Chiriqui Marine National Park and get ready to visit Bolaños and Gamez Islands. Spend the day in these lush and full-of-life islands, where you will enjoy seeing volcanic formations, coral reefs and mangroves, and spotting dolphins, seabirds and humpback whales.

  • View of the mountainous landscape of Boquete with illuminated gardens, representing the tranquility and natural charm of the final destination of the itinerary.

For a change of scenery, anchor at Boca Chica, a coastal town. From here, a 2-hour drive takes you up to Boquete — often called the Napa Valley of Coffee — a lush mountain valley in Chiriqui, home to the world’s most valuable Geisha coffee, world-class gastronomy, and a cool air that feels like a reset, marking the end of your nautical adventure. Here we recommend you to book at least 2 nights, in the many lodging options the area offers — from coffee farms to eco-lodge hostels.

Group of tourists rafting on the Chiriqui Viejo River, surrounded by tropical vegetation, in an adrenaline-filled experience during the itinerary through Panamá.

For the following days, trade your deck shoes for hiking boots and do not miss Los Quetzales Trail, where rare quetzals flash through the cloud forest. Glide over treetops on a zip-line, or try rock-climbing and rappelling walls like Los Ladrillos.

Craving more adrenaline? If you are here between June and November, go white-water rafting on the Chiriqui Viejo River, famous for its Class IV and V rapids.

Tourists tasting coffee or sharing moments after completing the nautical portion of the trip.

Or if you want to slow down, book a coffee-tasting tour — where you will learn more about the coffee cultivation and production by the hand of a local farmer, unwind in Caldera’s natural hot springs, or visit the Boquete Artisan Center to meet local artisans and take a souvenir with a piece of Panama's soul.

  • Tourists enjoying breakfast at a cozy coffee shop in Boquete, surrounded by a warm wooden atmosphere before concluding their itinerary in Panamá.

Wake up to the peaceful beauty of Boquete. After breakfast at one of the famous coffee shops in town, take a one-hour car trip to David International Airport (DAV / Enrique Malek), where you can catch a flight to Panama City and perhaps continue another adventure in this unforgettable country.
