Agrotours

The farms of Portobelo have opened their doors so that you can get to know the life of our farmers and savor the best seasonal tropical fruits and vegetables.

On the farms, you'll be able to see plantations of bananas, annatto, breadfruit, cocoa, celery, soursop, and much more. There you can make contact with animals and learn about medicinal plants and decorative flowers.

Each of the farms has its own personality and perfect complement to your picnic. In some you'll be able to interact with animals such as goats, sheep, cows, horses, deer, chicks, chickens, among others. In others, you can hike and walk to waterfalls, play in the Piedras River, and swim in its natural pool.

Other farms offer adventure experiences where you can kayak in the middle of the mangroves, explore among the trees, go horseback riding and even visit the beaches of Portobelo. Definitely, for those who come with the family, visits to the farms are a mandatory stop.

In addition, in many of these farms you'll find ranchitos, viewpoints, beaches, lodging and restaurants. Many of them prepare their meals with the food from their crops. By going to eat there, you help reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting food, support more environmentally friendly processes and create an impact on local communities.

When to Visit Portobelo

If you're going to visit us to find out about the best agritourism plans, we recommend that you come from January to April.

The dry season is the time when most crops are harvested and the months when fruit trees bloom.

In this season, you'll see a very colorful landscape, but you can come at any time of the year, because here you'll find a constant temperature of 80ºF (27ºC) and a landscape full of life no matter the season.

In Portobelo you can visit a lot of trails, beaches and diving spots. And the most special thing is that you'll be able to learn about the Congo culture, the history of a walled city and its Afro-colonial people.
