Caribbean Beaches

Bocas has a charm of its own on every beach you visit. You will find beaches like Carenero Beach or Red Frog Beach with lots of activities where you can enjoy restaurants, bars, sports and a variety of tours. However, in Bocas, you will also find uninhabited beaches like Playa Escondida, where you can forget about everything and enjoy an authentic connection with nature.

Many of these beaches with very different landscapes are very close to each other, perfect for alternating during your visit. Each morning, you can choose from a long menu of options before setting out on a water taxi or hiking trail.

There are beaches like Bluff, with sands of such an intense color that many describe them as orange. This is due to its coral origin. One advantage of this sand, besides its beauty, is that it does not get very hot, so you can walk barefoot without burning your feet!

When to Go

The Bocas sea can be enjoyed all year round! Between August and October, the sea is calm, and you can enjoy excellent sea bathing.

Take advantage of these months to visit the tourist places that are farther away or those facing the open sea, since at other times of the year it is more difficult. Its beaches are also full of life under the sea, making these months ideal for snorkeling and diving.

The rest of the year, you can find days with more agitated waves, perfect for learning or going surfing. For this sport, we recommend, among many others, Wizard Beach. The changes in the winds and tides make the surf beaches have a high season (December to March) in which the waves are first class. However, you can continue to chase smaller waves for a few more months.

Bocas del Toro's climate is different from the rest of the country. In this region, the driest months, but still with occasional rains, are during March and from September to October, while the rainiest months are November and December. When planning to visit Bocas, always remember to prepare for different weather conditions. It can be bright sunny in the morning, rainy at midday and sunny again in the afternoon. Don't be discouraged if you get caught in a storm, the sun will come out sooner than you think!

Tips

  • Bocas is very close to the Equator, where the sun's rays are directly overhead. In order to enjoy the beaches to the fullest, always remember to protect yourself from the sun; wear a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent; and drink enough water to stay hydrated.
  • If you are planning to visit a deserted beach, be sure to bring food, water and anything else you might need to enjoy the day until you return.
  • Remember to take care of the beaches, take the garbage with you and do not touch the starfish or pull up the corals. Only this way we can preserve the natural beauty!
