Rural and Agrotourism in Portobelo
If you're in Panamá and looking for a different experience by the Caribbean, visit the Portobelo farms. In front of a turquoise sea with white beaches and in the middle of green fields, you'll get to know country life, the flavors of the Panamanian Caribbean and you'll be able to connect with the land and farm animals.
On the farms, you'll be able to see plantations of bananas, annatto, breadfruit, cocoa, celery, soursop, and much more. There you can make contact with animals and learn about medicinal plants and decorative flowers.
Each of the farms has its own personality and perfect complement to your picnic. In some you'll be able to interact with animals such as goats, sheep, cows, horses, deer, chicks, chickens, among others. In others, you can hike and walk to waterfalls, play in the Piedras River, and swim in its natural pool.
Other farms offer adventure experiences where you can kayak in the middle of the mangroves, explore among the trees, go horseback riding and even visit the beaches of Portobelo. Definitely, for those who come with the family, visits to the farms are a mandatory stop.
In addition, in many of these farms you'll find ranchitos, viewpoints, beaches, lodging and restaurants. Many of them prepare their meals with the food from their crops. By going to eat there, you help reduce the carbon footprint associated with transporting food, support more environmentally friendly processes and create an impact on local communities.

In this season, you'll see a very colorful landscape, but you can come at any time of the year, because here you'll find a constant temperature of 80ºF (27ºC) and a landscape full of life no matter the season.
In Portobelo you can visit a lot of trails, beaches and diving spots. And the most special thing is that you'll be able to learn about the Congo culture, the history of a walled city and its Afro-colonial people.
